Born in Czechoslovakia - a country that no longer exists, Fenar and his family eventually landed in Denmark as Iraqi refugees. At 11, he found hip hop and basketball, which opened up a whole new world. This led him to become an exchange student at a high school in Texas for a year.
During that time, a little revolution started inside. He started to think of himself as an artist, experimenting with painting, photography, and graffiti. He found film and there was no turning back.
Fenar Ahmad‘s second feature film, “Darkland” -- in which an esteemed doctor trades his life of privilege to become a vigilante and avenge his brother’s gang-related death -- was released in 2017 to critical acclaim. The film went on to shortlist for the 2018 Academy Awards in Best Foreign Film. His third feature, “Valhalla,” is a children’s tale rooted in Nordic mythology and due to be released in October 2019.
Fenar divides his time between LA and Denmark. He has directed commercials for brands such as Reebok and Pepsi.
