The son of Hollywood screenwriter Arthur A. Ross, Gary Ross launched his career as co-writer of the hit film “Big,” starring Tom Hanks, which earned Ross his first Academy Award® nomination.
Gary received subsequent Oscar® nominations for “Dave,” starring Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver and “Pleasantville,” which he wrote and directed, starring William H. Macy and Reese Witherspoon. He later adapted and directed “Seabiscuit,” starring Jeff Bridges, Tobey Maguire, and Elizabeth Banks, which earned him an additional 7 Oscar® nominations. “The Hunger Games,” starring Jennifer Lawrence, received critical acclaim and a multitude of international awards.
Gary co-authored and directed “Free State of Jones,” an epic civil war biopic released in 2016 and starring Matthew McConaughey, which explores a neglected and fascinating chapter of American history. His most recent film, “Ocean's Eight,” the all-female re-boot of “Ocean's Eleven,” stars Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, and Cate Blanchett and will release in June 2018.
